| Comments: | Question for any of you that are involved in the music business. Has anyone had any dealings with Statue Records? They have offered me a non exclusive distribution contract. Man this thing looks really good on the surface but things don`t really add up. I mean they seem willing to sigh you at the drop of a hat. They say they will cover all cost of manufacturing and packaging. The only cost to the artist is optional. You can choose if you wish to be listed on their website for a one time set up fee of $100. If you go to their website they have a stable of artists a mile long. They say in thier enitial email that they plan to promote your music to radio and this will create sales and they will by that time have your cds stocted in the stores and avalible on the internet. I was told that they have 2200 brick and morter record outlets that they do business with. they bill themselves as a major indepentent label with world wide distribution and guaranteed to get my music played on major market mainstream country radio. They pay you royalties on the records they sell. 25% of wholesale which is about what the major artists make on the mega labels. Artist retains ownership of masters, artist retains ownership of publishing, artist may continue to manufacture and sell cds on thier own. Sounds great. so where`s the catch? The one thing I noticed is that the contract itself talks entirely about the royalties and when and how they are disburced it all seems perfectly fine exept there is no mention of radio promotion as being part of the contract. It is just implied that radio is what drives sales and thier all about selling records. Which is fine if that is thier motive. Back to the large stable of artists and thier mad rush to sign as many artists as possible maybe it`s a guy working out of his house signing up as many artists as possible for the web site at $100 a pop 500 artists that 50 grand. Then they make copies of your music and sell it back to you at a rate thats a little higher than wholesale. No one person is out a lot of money and you do get some exposure on their site and the only records they are selling are the ones the artist buys. Then again they could be a legit major independent record label based on the west coast. I have`nt signed yet don`t think I will can anyone change my mind on this has someone had experience with Statue records | |||

| Comments: | COMING SOON Hey everyone I wanted to let you know that there is going to be some changes at this site concerning the jukebox. We are thinking about featuring only one song at a time , maybe a couple of weeks at a time. Why? because of marketing stradigy. You see in a couple of weeks the CD will be for sale at cdbaby.com. And the idea in the record business is to sell records. But why would anyone buy it when they can get it here for free. I will have to talk with the site designer and see what our options are befor we will have it all figured out. But this cdbaby.com thing is pretty cool. the way I understand it you will be able to purchase the entire cd album directly from cdbaby on line. or you will be able to down load as little as one track for a small fee,65 to 75cents per track down load. I think it`s more for longer songs, but i`m not sure. Any way I wanted to give you a heads up on that and I hope it will be eisier for those who would like to puchase the music I write. | |||

| Comments: | I just received a radio report on my latest patriotic release. STAND UP TALL AMERICA. The song is doing really well, with a lot of medium and light play all over the country. But I don`t think I have ever released a song that got this many stations listing it on their heavy playlists in just one short month.
